BNT V8s Championship Resumes at Pukekohe

The BNT V8s line-up again this weekend for the second round of their Championship at Pukekohe.

The first round, also held at Pukekohe in December saw Australian based, Kiwi Supercar driver Andre Heimgartner take the championship lead.

The weekend was cut short, with the championship only getting two races completed, the third race of the weekend abandoned after heavy rain began lashing the circuit late in the day.

For the former Champion, however, it was a good start to his season, coming away with two wins as he prepares for his upcoming Virgin Australia Supercars season.

“Good to get two wins, and got pole which was a good start to the weekend. Hopefully, we can do it again and have another clean weekend,” said Heimgartner.

Heimgartner will be joined by teammate and team owner Lance Hughes in the second Hamilton Motorsports entry.

Looking to build on her BNT V8 debut, is young Australian driver Alexandra Whitley.

Whitley stared at Pukekohe in December aboard the Richards Team Motorsport Toyota Camry, clinching a round podium in her first outing into BNT V8 racing.

“It was fantastic to be able to give the Richards Motorsport Team some silverware and champagne to celebrate their help, support and hard work leading up to and throughout the whole event,” said Whitley.

16-year-old south island racer, Brayden Phillips lines up in his Ford Falcon SuperTourer. The youngest slowly getting grips to the fast Pukekohe circuit, doing double duties in December by also competing in the Toyota 86 Championship.

“I am slowly getting used to Pukekohe. I have found it to be one of the hardest tracks to get use to.”

Brad Lathrope returns in his Ford Falcon SuperTourer for what is his third season in Class One of the Championship. Tauranga’s Rob Wallace will also line up in his ex Greg Murphy Holden Commodore SuperTourer.

Having had a terrible start to his Championship campaign, lying seventh in points, former champion Nick Ross will be looking to bounce back this weekend aboard his Nissan Altima.

Justin McIlroy will line up in his Holden Commodore TL in BNT V8 Lites.

The BNT V8s Open class is headlined by the Collins Motorsport Ford Mustang of Sam Collins and will be joined by the Holden Commodores of Eric Hennephof and Blair McDonald. They will be joined in the open class by the Corvette of Grant Hanna.

The BNT V8s will have three races over the weekend.
