Jack Smith has continued his dominance in the BNT V8s, taking pole position by nearly one second over Brenton Grove.
Grove was the initial pace setter in his Toyota Camry but was pipped by both Nick Ross and fellow countryman Jack Smith.
Smith held a 1.2-second advantage over Ross and Grove with five minutes on the board. Meanwhile, Herbert was a distant 2.8 seconds back.
Smith bettered the benchmark with a 1:09.044. He went quicker still, and by lap five he was under the 1:08-mark.
Grove narrowed the margin to Smith down to half a second, but Smith hit back and extended the gap out to eight tenths.
The Australian aces were obviously pushing. The pair continued to lower the marker, but Grove pushed too hard and went off at Turn 1. He slowly trundled his way onto the track and returned back to the pit lane.
By the sessions’ end it was Smith a little over eight tenths ahead of Grove. Nissan Altima ace Nick Ross was third with Lance Hughes fourth and Chelsea Herbert fifth. Rob Wallace was sixth followed by Lathrope. Topping Class 2 was Matt Podjursky ahead of Justin Ashwell.
