Round two of the BNT NZ Touring Car Championship at Taupo can only be described by Tom Alexander as “frustrating” as the Cantabrian looks forward to round three at his home track in January.
“The weekend did not go as we had hoped, in fact it was a very frustrating weekend for both myself and the team as we were not able to get the set up correct,” says Alexander.
“Although, I did finish fourth for the weekend and still hold second in the championship, so that’s a positive we can take away.”
Practice on Saturday morning was encouraging with Alexander and his team scoring second fastest on a dry track.
“We put new tyres on for Qualifying but finished a disappointing fourth.”
Across the three races over the weekend, Alexander accumulated a third, and fourth and a sixth.
“We made changes for race one and in wet conditions I got a great start straight into third, and was pretty happy to get the podium finish. But, we just seemed to go backwards the rest of the weekend battling handling and steering issues.”
“The team did all they could, trying everything, and I can’t thank them enough for their tireless work.”
“We have been reviewing the weekend and huge plans are underway to get the car sorted for Ruapuna! It’s my home track and I’ve always gone well there, so am really looking forward to getting down there in January.”
“The car is good, it won races at Ruapuna last year, so we’ll look to try and replicate that.”
