Young Invercargill driver Liam MacDonald returns to Pukekohe Park Raceway this weekend to contest the opening round of the BNT NZ Touring Car Championship.
The fast, South Auckland circuit has proven to be a happy hunting ground for MacDonald in the past including a podium there twelve months ago.
The round at Pukekohe is the first of what MacDonald hopes will be a full championship campaign in his Ford Falcon V8 after only sporadic appearances in past seasons. In a mere ten appearances at national level MacDonald has racked up round wins, race wins and podium appearances, a very impressive record considering the irregular nature of his appearances.
MacDonald arrives at Pukekohe this week looking for a good result to get his championship challenge underway. “We have pretty much rebuilt everything and we plan to do the whole series,” Liam said recently. “We hear there are quite a few new cars expected on the grid so it should be a really good season.”
One major boost for his campaign is the acquisition of the talents of former NZV8’s Champion Angus Fogg of Auckland who will mentor and assist Liam and the team throughout the season.
MacDonald is also grateful for the support of his sponsors for the 2016/2017 BNT NZ Touring Car Championship. “We have several new sponsors alongside our existing supporters and we are so grateful,” say’s Liam.
MacDonald has support from GT Radial NZ, Classic Car Warehouse Invercargill, Advanti Racing and YHI NZ, Ideal Electrical, BNT NZ, Auto Windscreen Replacement Ltd, Southern Bolts & Fasteners, Auto Fab, NAC Insurance, Speedy Signs Invercargill, Derek Orr Auto Refinisher, Southern Probuilt Engines, DAL Photographics, Discount Tyres Invercargill and Sport Scholarships with the Community Trust of Southland and the ILT Foundation.
Pukekohe is the first of six rounds in this season’s BNT NZ Touring Car Championship, with the opening round this weekend part of the programme at the massive ITM Auckland Super Sprint Supercar meeting at the circuit.
