Timperley Ready for V8 Transition

23-year-old Auckland driver Brock Timperley will make his BNT NZ Touring Car Championship debut in November when round one gets underway at Pukekohe.

A former Rookie of the Season in the Mazda Pro 7 Championship, last season Timperley went on to Win the New Zealand Championship for Pro 7 Plus, 3rd in the North Island Championship and received the Most Improved award.

Now looking to progress his motorsport career, Timperley has set his sights on competing in class two of the BNT NZ Touring Car Championship.

“It’s difficult to have any goals before the season starts, it would be great to say my goal is to win the championship but I couldn’t say that yet as I have no clue what I will be like against the other drivers – many of whom have been racing these cars for a number of years now,” says Timperley.

“However at the end of the day my goal is to have a great time next to my father and team manager Roy who is my backbone when it comes to my racing.”

Timperley will campaign a Ford Falcon, which was previously raced by Wellington driver Brock Cooley, who used the car to win the 2015/16 class two championship.

Prior to the season start, Timperley has undertaken an extensive testing programme, learning his new car at a number of circuits, which the championship visits.

“Testing so far has gone extremely well – Surprisingly well! The car took a lot to adapt to after racing the RX7 but with some fantastic driver coaching and a well setup car, I am feeling very confident in it having tested at Pukekohe, Taupo and Manfeild.”

“I have raced at all the North Island tracks and have been around Ruapuna a few times open testing a road car. So just leaves me to learn Teretonga but also Hampton Downs is my favourite and a circuit I enjoy.”

“The car is good, Brock Cooley demonstrated that when he raced it, so there is no reason why we can’t do well.”

Round one of the BNT NZ Touring Car Championship gets underway at Pukekohe November 3-5.
