Smith & Podjursky Take Gull Poles at Highlands

Australian driver Jack Smith dominated qualifying for the BNT V8s at Highlands Motorsport Park, taking the Gull pole position by 1.6 seconds.

The session was brought to a halt when Brenton Grove stopped out on track at the Turn 14 hairpin. Grove had been the quickest man on track with a 1:39-flat, but because he brought out the red flag he wasn’t allowed to restart. However, as he brought out the red flag he’d be dropped three places on the grid.

Matt Podjursky takes pole position in Class Two.

That promoted Nick Ross, Chelsea Herbert and Lance Hughes up the order. Hughes bested Herbert late in the session and promoted himself up the order to third provisionally.

Jack Smith took the top time with his fourth flying lap once the session had restarted, six tenths ahead of Grove.

With the session complete the grid was set with Smith ahead of Ross, Hughes, Herbert, Grove, Rob Wallace, Brad Lathrope, Matt Tubbs and Scott Taylor. Matt Podjursky led Class 2 ahead of Justin Ashwell.

Race one of the weekend gets underway at 3:35pm on Saturday afternoon.
