Andre Heimgartner has claimed pole position for the first race of the weekend of the BNT V8s at Taupo after an incredibly tight battle at the front of the field. 
Young Australian driver Jack Smith will start from second place on the grid in his Holden Commodore with the Toyota Camry of fellow Australian driver Jason Bargwanna starting from third.
Liam MacDonald claimed the honours for class two, from Nick Farrier and Matt Podjrsky.
